My Point Of View On The Way Things Went Down
We started this project by measuring the area we had to
build using a laser measure that Alistair provided. After we collected the
measurements for our area, we took photographs of the area and we used them as
a form of resource and reference for our models.
I have created a prototype of our first building in Maya. The
prototypes measurements and scale were too big, and after looking at Alistair’s
model of the building I thought it seemed more elegant and so we decided to go
with that model.
So for your information and consideration we did create a Maya
model like everyone else on the course, but in the end we decided that the
Sketch Up model was much better and easier to manipulate and edit therefore we
went with Alistair’s model.
After the model was created we were ready to create the
assets. Alistair (The Producer) assigned the team members tasks that we had to
complete. I was asked to create small assets, Josh was asked to create seamless
textures and Cathleen was also asked to create small assets, I think Alistair
was cleaning up the model at this time. After all of these tasks were completed,
we went on to improve the model further. Then me, Josh and Alistair went on to
create UV Maps for the building and applied textures to it, while Cathleen kept
creating more small assets and texturing them. From this point on we kept on
improving the model and improving texture maps and Alistair was also doing this
plus joining the models together as they had to be separated in order to be
textured.
There was a lot of
trial and error in this project that did not go into this summary meaning a lot
of effort went into the final model that you saw.
From my point of view I think the group worked well together
as everyone was able to do what was asked of them. Some of the things that
could be improved on in my opinion is the fact that everyone should have the
same workload no matter what, and we could be more organised in the way things
are done and communicated, and if a person feels that they are doing more work than
speak up because we are here to help, I have always put myself out here and
asked if the producer needed help and I will continue to do so : ) .
